Late summer at home: fresh air, flowers, and personal details

Dear friend,

Returning from a summer holiday can feel like an abrupt shift. But late August is actually a wonderful time to give your home a little extra attention. You don't need a major makeover to keep that good holiday feeling going - just a few simple routines and the right objects.

Here are a few straightforward ways to prepare your space for the new season:

Let the air in: Start with the practical basics. Open the windows to let the late August breeze in, unpack your bags, and make the bed with fresh sheets. It instantly makes the place feel ready for everyday life again.

Bring nature inside: August is in full bloom. Invest in a nice bouquet of cut flowers or head outside to pick your own wild stems. Placing them in a vase on an eye-catching surface brings energy and vibrancy into the room.

Frame a holiday memory: Print a favorite photo from your trip and put it in a classic frame, put it on your desk or mix it with oil paintings and other artwork, it's an easy way to give a wall true personality.

Add a touch of color: Coming back to everyday routines can sometimes leave us feeling a bit depleted or uninspired. Monochromatic spaces, while calm, can easily feel flat when you need a boost. Bringing in a few colorful details - like a piece of vintage opaline glass or hand-painted faience - adds subtle balance and brings much-needed energy and joy back to the room.

Set the evening mood: As the days get slightly shorter, atmosphere is everything. Group a few books of your choice, a small sculpture, or a vintage vessel on a table, and light a natural beewax candle next to them. The gentle scent of beewax makes the whole room feel instantly warm, grounded, and inviting.

Bonus: For your next holiday, bring back a small artifact of some kind, it can be a stone, a shell, or a little souvenir. Place it somewhere you know you'll see it daily. I place mine on a vintage plate out on the glass porch. It instantly bring back memories.

Warmly,
Josefina.
